About Me

My background, learning journey and passions

Introduction

Hi! I'm Kitrus, a neurodivergent Game Developer and Music Composer. I created this website so I could have a hub for all of my works and creations

Game Development

I started teaching myself game development in mid 2021, making simple 2D games using visual programming. This went on for a few years until I started college and begun learning the Unity game engine - this is what I made my newer projects in.

I've always had a passion in creating things for myself and others to play, Minecraft played a large part in this, command blocks were very fun to mess around with and other games like Super Mario Maker inspired me a lot when creating my own games.
Another inspiration for me has been the roguelike/roguelite genre. Games such as The Binding Of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon really clicked with me and I love incorporating elements and ideas from the genres into my own projects. Replayability is a great feature in games and that's why roguelikes are so fun to play.

Music

I grew up listening to music all the time so experimenting with making my own was a lot of fun! Bandlab - a free browser DAW was my starting point, I spent lots of time playing around with the software and became pretty well-versed with it.

My first release was a collection of my first songs, thrown together with little thought but i'm still proud of them even today, as everyone starts somewhere. After that I experimented a bit with samples, releasing a couple songs that were mainly samples; and to be honest, I don't like them.
Samples isn't really my thing when it comes to music, I much prefer to create all the sounds using VSTs (Virtual Instruments) as it's my own work, so I went back to making VST focused songs.

Fast forward a year or so and I migrated to CakeWalk - Bandlab's more complicated successor in the form of a full application. This software I actually struggled with a little as it was such a huge leap from the previous DAW - I got the hang of it though and released a few songs through it before eventually moving to FL Studio, my current DAW.
FL Studio works for me because the interface is clean and easy to use/understand.
